New Lesson Options including Monthly Payments
Jun 3rd, 2010 by director

I’m excited to let everyone know about the brand new Bulk Lesson Time discount offers now available. Based on feedback, we wanted to have some lower price discount offers available that will be easier on the bank account for those times when things are stretched a bit, which is of course common these days. We also wanted to create an option that would make it convenient to pay for lesson tuition on a monthly basis along with the regular monthly bills, which will also help make things easier to budget for many. Our new lesson offers accomplish both these goals!

The new bulk lesson time options now available are 2 Hours of Lesson Time, and 3 Hours of Lesson Time. These are in addition to the still available offers of 4 Hours of Lesson Time and 6 Hours of Lesson Time.

For those who wish to pay for lesson tuition on a monthly schedule, then these are the offers that will work based on the lesson durations.

Even though some months have 5 weeks of lessons, we usually find that there is a one week break in lessons every few months as well. So as long as the monthly payment is consistent, then there may only be a need every 3-4 months to make a slight change to the due date of payments. If you wish to choose the Monthly option, then let me know and I will work with you to pick a monthly due date that will work for you based on the current amount of lesson time on account.

You may review the specific discounts and the per-lesson rates that each of these offers provides on the Private Lessons page:

May Performance Workshops
May 12th, 2010 by director

Students who just participated in our May Performance Workshops last week did a fantastic job and enjoyed the experience!

I have posted some of the pictures from the workshops in a Facebook album. If parents or other students also took some photos, then please feel free to post them or send them along to me and I’ll be happy to add them to the album.

Based on how the program has gone so far this year, we are going to start reserving the Wednesday evening workshops for adults and young adults about age 13 and older and the Saturday afternoon workshops will be for the younger students ages 5 – 12. We are also going to try and limit the workshop participants to about 12 per session.

We hope this will be an incentive for our adult students to participate, as they will know that those Wednesday evening sessions will place them with other older students.

Also, with the limit of 12 students per workshop, this makes it even more important to plan out and sign up for your workshops ASAP! If you don’t have your next workshop planned, then take a moment to sign up online right now.

Remember the key points of the program:

  • All students are required to participate in 2 workshops per year
  • Students should always know their next scheduled workshop and inform and work with their teachers to that goal
  • Participants will play at least 1 solo piece and 1 duet or ensemble piece
  • Students may now sign up online for any of the scheduled workshops this year
  • Since these are workshops and not formal recitals, we request that no more than 2 additional family members attend
  • As always, if you have any questions then please let me know or come see me when you are here for your next lesson!

April 2010 Student of the Month – Alex Callahan

    Alex Callahan

    Alex Callahan

    About Alex

The Student of the Month for April of 2010 is Alex Callahan. Alex has been taking piano lessons with Virginia Morgan since August of 2008.

Alex is a very self-motivated student, and in his own words he, “Always tries his best.” He always arrives to his lesson a little bit early and even though his teacher may not be ready for him, he immediately goes into a free studio to warm up and get ready for his lesson. (After politely asking if he may do so first, of course!)

Alex’s favorite piece is Hickory Dickory Dock. He likes taking piano lessons with Ms. Ginny because she’s, “Fun!” When not working on his piano studies, Alex likes to play baseball. He also enjoys playing outside, and especially likes to squirt water at his brother!

March 2010 Student of the Month – Jonah Richardson
    Mar 9th, 2010 by director

Congratulations to Jonah Richardson, our inaugural Student of the Month for March of 2010!!!

    Jonah Richardson

    Jonah Richardson

    About Jonah

Our very first Student of the Month is Jonah Richardson. Jonah takes piano lessons with Mr. Kevin Rose. He was chosen as our first Student of the Month because he is always eager to play piano and perform. He plays for anyone who comes to his house to visit, and any time there is a piano nearby. He regularly gives recitals for his schoolmates during lunchtime, and even likes to teach others how to play!

Jonah’s favorite composer is Scott Joplin, and some of his favorite pieces he has played include Ode to Joy and the theme for The Addam’s Family. The favorite piece the other members of his family enjoy listening to is Tarantella. What Jonah likes most about coming to The Maryland Academy of Music is playing the pianos, especially the BIG grand piano in the recital hall. His favorite part about taking lessons is that Mr. Kevin teaches him new things and new songs to play. When not performing or practicing at the piano, Jonah enjoys playing with his friends.

    Open Letter Regarding Snow
    Feb 16th, 2010 by director

    Dear Students and Parents,

I want to let all of you know that The Maryland Academy of Music and our teachers are going to try hard to get lesson schedules back to normal as we emerge from the mounds of melting snow. Consistency with lessons is a vital key for progress, and we will try to recapture the sense of routine as soon as possible. The instructors and I will do our best this week to work with students to reschedule and make up for any lost lessons. Each situation will be different, but the main concern we will focus on (as always) is what makes the most sense for the long term progress of the student.

We are also (optimistically) hoping that this extra in-house time may have translated into additional practice time! So, perhaps, we will notice some additional progress despite any lost lessons.

I look forward to seeing bright, smiling faces on all the students finally getting out of the house and coming in to make music!

    Regards,
